Synopsis

Rome whispers her name like an accusation. Livia Claudia, widow of a murdered senator, heir to old patrician blood, walks into the Forum in funeral black and buys the very man condemned for spilling her husband's blood. They call it madness. She calls it justice—or the beginning of it. Cassius, soldier turned gladiator turned chained property, believes she set the trap that destroyed him. A medallion bearing her mark damned him. Now she owns him, and neither of them can name what burns hotter: hatred, suspicion, or the thing neither will speak aloud. Behind locked doors and beneath the watchful eyes of a household that fears her, Livia must unravel who truly killed Tiberius—before the truth buries them both. He wants vengeance. She wants the conspirators who framed them both. But every silence between master and slave grows heavier, every glance more dangerous, and the line between captor and captive begins to dissolve. In a world where a woman's power is borrowed and a man's life is bought with silver, the most forbidden thing of all is to want each other. Can enemies forged in betrayal become something Rome would never forgive?
